VERY IMPORTANT: "S" models have built in sounders and can connect directly to a transducer. Other models will need an external sounder (GSD 21 or GSD 22) AND a transducer compatible with the GSD unit.
The GSD 21 is a remote, black-box sounder that transmits 500 watts at 50/200kHz. It’s designed specifically for use with the GPSMAP® 2006 and GPSMAP 2010 series units (including color versions) to provide SONAR capabilities to these units
The GSD 22 is a powerful remote sounder that plugs directly into the Garmin Marine Network for use with our network chartplotters — or into the new Garmin CANet™ for use with the new series chartplotters. Ultrascroll™ technology keeps the display scrolling at live-action speeds, while the unit’s digital design and up to 2 kW of transmit power (depending on transducer used) provide extraordinary target definition and deep water performance. Transmit power and receiver gain automatically adjust to produce excellent shallow water performance as well. The GSD 22 is dual frequency (200/50 kHz) and works with everything from a standard 500 W transom mount transducer to heavy-duty 2 kW thru-hull or in-hull transducers. Reaches depths to 5,000 feet.

sounder data to be shared with other plotter displays.
Plug in optional BlueChart® g2 Vision™ cards to add true 3D-view detailed mapping capabilities (both above and below the
waterline), plus helpful auto guidance, high-resolution photomapping detail, and “real world” aerial photos of ports, harbors,
marinas, waterways, navigation landmarks and other points of interest.
View Satellite-enhanced Maps
The 420’s basemap contains worldwide satellite images in place of more traditional maps, and its SD card slot makes it easy to add additional maps without connecting to a computer. With fewer keys and a simple, intuitive interface, the 420 makes navigating your way through the water easy.
